Blake Gills

This is a shot of two colors of my newest lure called the "SteelShad". This is the most versatile lure I have ever made or seen. This lure can swim sideways in either a left or right direction with only a slight bend in the main body of the lure, or if left in the straight configuration, swims staight as an arrow. A little history about myself.

I started building lures from balsa wood about 18 years ago in a dirt floor shop called the "Frogshop" in a little town called Gurdon, Arkansas.
I had just fallen in love with the sport of bass fishing, and was never one to buy what I could make myself. That and the fact that I didn't make a lot of money caused me to start widdling and carving from a block of balsa wood bought at a hobby shop for model planes. My first lure that was really worth anything was the "HighRoller" which I eventually sold and had patented by Smithwick Lure Co. in Shreveport La. At that time, all of Jack Smithwick Jr's lures where made from sugar pine, so I prototyped the lure again from that wood and have been using it ever since.
Since then, I have worked for several companies and people in the lure business including Cotton Cordell, the Sportsman's Outdoor Network, HighRoller fishing lure Company, and a couple more you probably haven't heard of.
